With the Erasmus Project, we visited Cambrils, a sea city in Catalonia-Spain. It is a touristic place with a variety of shops and restaurants. We stayed there for 5 days. We were hosted by other students while the teachers were accommodated at a hotel.

After getting some sleep at our host’s houses, the next day we arrived at school. There we met the other participants of the program from other countries and from Spain. They showed us around the school.  We got to know each other better and we attended some classes, not very actively of course. During those, we, also, got to meet some spanish students outside of the program. The second day, they presented their educational system to us. Students, with help and advice from their teachers, grow vegetables and herbs. They also compost the remaining of their food and use it to fertilize their garden. Composting is something common in Cambrils.

On the third day, we went to the ‘Ateneu’ and students from every country presented their work. Afterwards, we visited the Oil Museum. There we were taught how oil was made since the ancient times until today.  In the evening, we went to 'Castells' where we were introduced to a tradition of Cambrils called 'human towers'. Some of us participated and created some amazingly unforgettable memories.

On day four, we had a pleasant trip to nearby Tarragona by bus. We made a visit to ‘’Rovira i Virgili University’’ (URV). We watched a speech at the Department of Chemical Engineering by Laureano Jimenez Esteller about ‘’Life cycle thinking’’. Moreover, he showed us around to some of the teaching and research laboratories of the School of Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. After lunch we visited the Roman Centre. Returning to Cambrils, all of us, students and teachers, went for rowing in Cambrils port.

On the last day, we went to the ‘’Ateneu’’ and we did a workshop on how to persuade others to recycle. We talked about what we had done all this time in Cambrils the project and what we learned. Afterwards, we went to school all together on foot where there was a surprise waiting for us. It was arranged for the school choir to sing for us. It was an spectacular performance!

The next day, we had to say goodbye to our new and beloved friends and to this beautiful place! We were extremely sad to have to leave so many friends that we made in Cambrils behind. It was an immense pleasure for us to meet them though, therefore we can't complain! We hope we will be able to visit soon.

During a sunny March week our grammar school, Gymnázium Hlinská in Žilina, Slovakia, became a host institution for the project partners from Spain, Italy, Greece, Sweden and France. It was the second project meeting of teachers and students considering the topic of climate change. Because Slovakia is the world´s second leading country in amount of drinking water it was only reasonable that WATER was the theme for the Slovak meeting. The program of the meeting, workshops and activities were suited accordingly to the topic so we were able to deepen our knowledge of water and realize its importance to us. Co-operating with the administration of The Malá Fatra National Park we went to the stream Varínka where we took samples of the water and we brought them back to school to analyse them in our chemical laboratory. We visited Gabčíkovo Dam; we were clearing the banks of the river Rajčanka and the surroundings of the school as well. Specialists from the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute explained to us the causes and the consequences of heavy rains and floods and they demonstrated it on the catastrophe in Vrátna valley. There was also an online meeting with Vittorio Marletto, an expert on climate change from ARPA, Italy. Teachers and students took part in a workshop managed by Lulea University of Technology. In the free time there was a cultural program organised for our partners. They could learn a lot about Slovak traditions, history, food and welcoming people. The Slovak team is really thankful for the opportunity to host our partners and friends. We are looking forward to meeting them again in Spain.
